The short answer
Pick tl;dv if a team needs searchable recordings, CRM updates, multi-meeting reports, sales playbook monitoring, and manager scorecards. Its free tier is unusually capable, and its EU-first security posture is one of the clearest in the category.
Pick Work Coach if you are buying for yourself and want coaching that your manager cannot inspect. It covers more kinds of professional conversations, keeps every score private, and includes voice delivery analysis plus practice roleplay.
tl;dv can tell a sales leader how calls across the pipeline are going. Work Coach tells one person what to try differently next time.
What tl;dv does
tl;dv records, transcribes, and summarizes Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams meetings in more than 30 languages. Its visible bot remains a standard capture method, and a newer desktop app provides bot-free capture for supported meetings. The free plan includes unlimited recordings and transcripts, with advanced AI usage limited.
The paid product moves quickly from notes into revenue intelligence. Pro adds unlimited AI notes, Ask tl;dv, multi-meeting reports, integrations, and follow-up drafting. Business adds sales playbooks such as BANT and MEDDIC, objection tracking, speaker insights, rep scorecards, scheduled reports, and team automations.
That orientation matters. tl;dv's coaching is built for a sales organization that wants consistency across reps. The manager and workspace are first-class parts of the product.
What Work Coach does
Work Coach is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that records microphone and system audio locally. Nothing joins the call, and recording starts only after you choose it. The meeting can be in Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack, or any other app that plays audio through the computer.
You get a timestamped transcript, an editable summary, and action items. The main product begins after those basics:
- Role-aware feedback. Work Coach identifies the meeting type and your role, then applies the right standard. An interview answer is judged differently from a manager's 1:1 or a seller's discovery call.
- Evidence you can replay. Coaching points link to the exact moment in the conversation instead of relying on generic advice.
- Filler-word feedback. It counts your fillers per minute and lets you listen to every instance in sequence.
- Voice delivery analysis. High-stakes clips are reviewed for pace, pitch, pauses, projection, and tone.
- Practice from real meetings. Voice roleplays let you retry difficult conversations and track whether the next attempt improves.
There is no employer dashboard, team workspace, or admin account. The person being coached owns the account and keeps the history when they change jobs.

How recording works
tl;dv's bot joins scheduled Zoom, Meet, or Teams calls and produces video plus a transcript. Everyone can see it and the host can refuse admission. For people who dislike bots, tl;dv now promotes native desktop capture as well. Its product still revolves around supported conferencing platforms and a shared cloud meeting record.
Work Coach captures whatever your computer plays, so it also works with Webex, Slack huddles, FaceTime, and less common meeting tools. It records only after you start it. The tradeoff is clear: tl;dv supplies a visible consent cue and a recording others can revisit, while Work Coach keeps the mechanics out of the participant list and puts disclosure responsibility on you.
What happens after the meeting
tl;dv is stronger when the meeting must feed a business process. Ask questions across calls, schedule recurring reports, send notes to a CRM, track objections, watch a playbook, and compare how reps handle the same part of a sales conversation. A revenue leader can use the system without opening every recording.
Work Coach is stronger when improvement depends on individual reflection. It points to evidence from your own speech, assesses the job that meeting required, and gives you a way to rehearse. There is no pipeline view and no team leaderboard.

Privacy and who owns the output
tl;dv is SOC 2 Type II compliant and GDPR compliant. It stores core meeting data in Europe, offers a choice of EU or US AI processing location, encrypts data with AES-256, and says customer data is never used to train AI. Its security page explains that metadata is anonymized and transcript segments are broken into randomized chunks before model processing.
That is a strong formal posture. It does not change the organizational model: a tl;dv workspace exists so teams can share calls, inspect scorecards, and automate reporting. Work Coach removes that audience entirely.
Work Coach keeps the product boundary simple. Meeting audio remains on your computer and is deleted automatically after 30 days. No audio file is stored in the cloud. Transcripts and coaching live in your private account, are never visible to your employer, and are never used to train shared models. There is no company administrator who can turn that promise into a workspace setting later.
Pricing
tl;dv Free includes unlimited meeting recordings and transcripts, with advanced AI notes limited to a small monthly allowance. Pro is $18 per user per month on annual billing ($29 monthly) and unlocks unlimited AI notes, Ask tl;dv, integrations, and multi-meeting intelligence. Business is $29 annually ($39 monthly) and adds sales coaching, playbook monitoring, objection handling, team scorecards, and scheduled reports. Enterprise is custom.
For a notetaker or sales system, tl;dv is cheaper. For a private coach, the comparison depends on whether its feedback changes behavior.
Work Coach costs $50 a month after a two-week free trial with no credit card. Plans at $250 and $500 add human review or a live monthly coaching session. That is expensive beside a basic notetaker and inexpensive beside a traditional executive coach, which commonly costs around $5,000 a month. The purchase only makes sense if feedback and practice are the reason you record.
Can you use both together?
Yes. tl;dv can own the team record, CRM updates, and management reports while Work Coach watches the same conversation locally for the individual. If the team has already recorded the call, importing the transcript into Work Coach avoids a second capture.
