What Backtrack does

Backtrack 2.0 later added cloud uploads, transcripts, summaries, sharing, and integrations while keeping direct local downloads free.

The product has since pivoted. Backtrack is now an AI capture and analytics platform for trade shows, hosted-buyer events, and scheduled 1:1 meeting programs. Preconfigured devices start and stop around the event schedule, conversations become transcripts and CRM-ready summaries, and organizers receive reports on buyer intent, objections, outcomes, follow-up, sentiment, and sponsor ROI.

What Work Coach does

Work Coach is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that records microphone and system audio locally. Nothing joins the call, and recording starts only after you choose it. The meeting can be in Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack, or any other app that plays audio through the computer.

You get a timestamped transcript, an editable summary, and action items. The main product begins after those basics:

There is no employer dashboard, team workspace, or admin account. The person being coached owns the account and keeps the history when they change jobs.

How recording works

The original Backtrack solved forgetfulness by always keeping a local rolling buffer, then saving only when the user acted. That was distinctive and carried a privacy benefit because nothing touched the cloud until upload.

The current event platform solves logistics at a different scale. Devices are deployed in meeting rooms, tied to the attendee schedule, and used to capture many planned conversations without asking every salesperson to operate an app. Work Coach returns to an individual scale but requires a conscious start before the meeting. There is no always-on buffer.

What happens after the meeting

Backtrack's event product turns hundreds or thousands of conversations into structured outcomes: lead notes, email drafts, CRM export, sentiment, objections, pipeline signals, rep analysis, and sponsor reports. An organizer can use the evidence to prove value and support rebooking.

Work Coach's history concerns the person, not the event. It looks across their own meetings for patterns and provides specific coaching plus practice. An event team shopping Backtrack is not choosing between these products; an individual finding an old Mac App Store review is.

Privacy and who owns the output

Backtrack's older public materials emphasized that continuous recording stayed local until the user chose Upload. The current event platform involves managed devices, cloud transcription, organizer reporting, and CRM export. Its public brand-facts page itself flags some integration and data-policy claims for confirmation, so a buyer should obtain the current DPA, retention schedule, consent flow, subprocessor list, and model-training terms during procurement.

At an event, consent deserves special attention because devices may capture short meetings in quick succession and organizers receive aggregate reporting. The contract and attendee disclosure need to match the actual deployment.

Work Coach keeps the product boundary simple. Meeting audio remains on your computer and is deleted automatically after 30 days. No audio file is stored in the cloud. Transcripts and coaching live in your private account, are never visible to your employer, and are never used to train shared models. There is no company administrator who can turn that promise into a workspace setting later.

Current Backtrack pricing is custom for Meeting Rooms, Hosted Buyer programs, and Custom Reporting and Analysis. Work Coach costs $50 a month after a two-week free trial with no credit card. Plans at $250 and $500 add human review or a live monthly coaching session. That is expensive beside a basic notetaker and inexpensive beside a traditional executive coach, which commonly costs around $5,000 a month. The purchase only makes sense if feedback and practice are the reason you record.

Can you use both together?

At a hosted-buyer event, an individual could use Work Coach only if event policy permits a separate personal recording. In most cases the cleaner setup is to request an allowed transcript from the organizer and import it. For normal online meetings, Backtrack's current product is not the relevant recorder.
